Cabrillo College on top of the parking structure; follow the signs
Visit the official Farmers' Market website at http://www.montereybayfarmers.org. I generally eschew negative comment in these reports, but there are some things that I would not buy or eat at the Market these days, and it no longer seems right to remain silent. First, on the non-certified row, the baked potatoes and roasted corn are very popular, but will never cross my lips. Who knows where the potatoes and corn come from, and how they were grown? The corn is certainly not in season. In the certified farmers areas, any grapes for sale in January have been in storage for several months, probably with sulfur treatment to prevent mold. No thank you! And it is not naturally possible to grow blackberries, raspberries and blueberries in winter in California. Whatever is being done to manipulate the plants can't be natural. Again, no thanks! Don't forget to eat seasonally, Buy Fresh, Buy Local and support your local small farmers! This a list of the vendors who were at the market, their farm locations and some of the products that they brought to the market: |
